Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy (Album Review)

So, here we are. After the announcement a few weeks ago Cardi B would be dropping her new album “Invasion of Privacy” a lot of people in the music industry and on social media have been arguing back and forth about if Cardi is a one-hit-wonder, or if she has plenty more in the stash. Well, I am here to tell you, Bodak Yellow is not the last you will hear of Cardi.

I have been one of those considered a hater to Cardi, I never fucked with Bodak Yellow and whenever the song would come on, I would change the song. As the success of Bodak Yellow grew in America, more and more Cardi B grew as an artist and the more you would hear her online. The album “Invasion of Privacy” starts with Cardi rapping her heart out over a piano beat, with the beat then kicking in. Similar to Meek Mill “Dreams and Nightmare Intro” the album starts strongly with Cardi going bar for bar with rappers, rapping why she is the shit and why people who have been hating, should pipe down as she continues to shine. You know Cardi has worked hard to make it where she is, and you can tell she is going to keep on grinding for success, definitely putting herself as the King of NY at the moment.

Whether or not she is writing her own raps, I feel it doesn’t matter with Cardi B as she has the whole package. Being a success in this industry, people love to support an underdog which Cardi B represents all her life and her personality certainly pulled me over to be a fan off hers. On this album you see the different sides available to Cardi B, she will rap about her days as a pole dancer, sex talk, her hood talks and even open up to be intimate with her fans. This is evident on the song “Be Careful” when she talks about how she wants to get married, but the man she’s with is a piece of shit and not treating her with the respect she’s due. Over a simplistic beat, and Cardi B singing the chorus, this song really grabbed my attention, and I hope we get visuals for this song, as I can imagine Cardi going all out for the video.

Cardi B has enough power in the game to pull in artists to feature on a debut album, and appearances from Migos, 21 Savage, Kehlani, SZA, Bad Bunny & J Balvin are excellent additions to the albums and not overshadowing Cardi B on the album. The best feature for me is the Chance the Rapper feature on “Best Life” on a song that will be a summer anthem, and definitely could have the potential to be a new Bodak Yellow. Cardi B is here rapping how good her life is, and she is living her best life, which is matched with a chorus by Chance the Rapper, which could easily have fitted in his album “Colouring Book” this song is just a massive feel-good anthem, and the song that Cardi B will definitely play top the haters. Let Cardi bask in her success.

This album has a few songs that I personally didn’t like, but I’m not the normal fan of Cardi B. I would skip on Bodak Yellow, so I can’t see me being the intended audience for this album. However, I will say that this album has certified Cardi B in the hip hop industry and has proven she is here to stay, and definitely has flows in her. Cardi B will demolish any current female rapper, but she should also be considered against male rappers as well, as Cardi has certainly held her own on this album.
