Well, what a way to start 2018. We expected a brand-new
Justin Timberlake album, with the announcement of him performing at SuperBowl
later on in the year. The question was when he would release the music, and information
is now being released to us. With the announcement that his new album “Man of
the Woods” being announced via a video stating the album is his most “personal”
album yet and reflects on his hometown and family life. Are these the cliché analogies
we associate whenever we hear an artist state he has a new album?
Well, Justin
Timberlake released his first single from the album, due to be released February
2nd, Filthy.
The first single from the album usually lets you know what
to expect from the album, and this single took me by surprise. The songs beat
is very futuristic and sounds like it could be on FutureSex/LoveSounds,
actually, if you listen again, the song sounds remarkably like the opening song
on the album. The song starts with Justin Timberlake screaming “If you know what’s
good” and the song switches into a futuristic song, which is catchy and I actually
enjoyed hearing Justin Timberlake come with this song. Justin Timberlake has
usually released a futuristic first single for his albums, with “Sexy Back” one
of the most futuristic songs I had ever heard when I first listened to that
back in 2006.
The video itself reflects Justin Timberlake, he’s a
revolutionary artist, who is always looking to push himself and discover the
new wave of music. He presents himself in a Steve Jobs manor, turtle neck and
glasses, in front of a sold-out auditorium who are leaching onto his new product.
Justin Timberlake is releasing something revolutionary, similar to when Apple
first released products. The robot that reflects his movement, and he then turns
out to be a robot? Making more sense that Justin Timberlake is a revolutionary artist.
I expect a mixture of futuristic music and country music
from his new album, and can guarantee that “Man of the Woods” will send
shockwaves through the music industry and explain why Justin Timberlake is the
true Justin of the music industry.
